Crafting the Perfect Cookie: Our Valentine’s Day Thumbprint Cookies start with a base that’s as comforting as a warm embrace—brown sugar shortbread. The rich, buttery flavor of brown sugar lends a caramel-like sweetness to the cookie dough, while the tender crumb adds a melt-in-your-mouth texture that’s simply irresistible.

Shaping Love with Every Thumbprint: Once the dough is perfectly mixed and chilled, it’s time to shape your cookies into bite-sized delights. Using your thumb or the back of a tiny spoon, create a small indentation in the center of each cookie—a perfect little nest for your raspberry jam hearts to nestle into.

Heartfelt Raspberry Jam Filling: What’s Valentine’s Day without a little touch of romance? Our thumbprint cookies are filled with the most delightful surprise—a dollop of vibrant red raspberry jam. Bursting with fruity flavor and a hint of tartness, the raspberry jam adds a pop of color and taste that will leave you craving more with every bite.

Baking with Love: As these cookies bake in the oven, the kitchen fills with the irresistible aroma of buttery sweetness and fruity goodness. It’s a scent that promises warmth and comfort, setting the stage for a truly memorable Valentine’s Day celebration.

Sharing the Love: Whether you’re surprising your sweetheart, treating your kiddos, or simply pampering yourself, our Valentine’s Day Thumbprint Cookies are the perfect way to spread love and joy this holiday. Package them up in a pretty box or present them on a festive platter—they’re sure to make hearts skip a beat and smiles light up faces.

Tips for Success:

  • Use room temperature ingredients for the cookie dough to ensure proper mixing and a smooth texture.
  • Chill the dough before shaping to make it easier to handle and prevent spreading during baking.
  • Experiment with different types of jam or preserves for a fun twist on the classic recipe—think strawberry, apricot, or even chocolate!

Ingredients

  • 1 c unsalted butter softened to a cool room temperature (67°F)
  • 1/2 c brown sugar, packed tightly
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 3 tbsp Smucker's "Simply Fruit" (or homemade) seedless red raspberry jam

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy with the whisk attachment of your stand mixer.
  • Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  •
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

  • On your mixer, switch out the whisk attachment with the paddle attachment. Add the flour mixture to the butter and sugar mixture and combine.
  • Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, and place the cookie dough balls on the baking sheets
two inches apart.

  • Remove from the oven and make heart indentations by pressing two thumbprints into V-shapes. (If your thumbs are too big, use a different finger.)
  • Warm the jam until you can stir it into a smooth (but still thick) consistency. Using a small teaspoon or large dropper, add 1/8 – 1/4 tsp of jelly to fill each heart.
  • Bake for about 12 – 15 minutes more until the edges of the cookies are slightly golden.
  • Cool cookies on a wire rack.
